iPhone Posture Coach App.
I wanted to create an application that many people could use. My approach to this project was minimal design and minimal need for interaction between the user and the application for full functionality.
I decided on creating an app that will help alleviate bad posture and possibly reduce chronic back pain for the users. I needed some help for this. I turned to Philadelphia University’s Occupational Therapy program for guidance. Together with Occupational Therapy student Jeanette Glaz, we determined the best placement of the device for measurement, and the proper angles for “good” posture.
To make this all possible, I needed to make the strap shown below.
Starting out with just Hand Sketched User Interface ideas, the myBack iPhone Web Application came together quite smoothly. It consists of a Natural User Interface (NUI) that “listens” to the angle at which the user is standing, helping to determine the posture habits of the user. myBack takes minimal manual input from the user to function, allowing the user to focus on other tasks while coaching themselves into good posture.
